How we teach spelling

At Fleetville, we teach spelling by focusing on spelling patterns (including those found in Key Stage 1 and when studying a phonics program). We provide regular opportunities for children to review previous Key Stage statutory and non-statutory words to ensure that children are secure before moving onto more complex spelling patterers. 

Throughout the school, children will revisit spelling patterns but be supported to do this using age appropriate words.

A variety of teaching strategies and activities  are used to ensure that spelling is embedded into long term learning. Each class will have three designated spelling lessons per week but will have the opportunity to consolidate learning through English and Guided Reading Sessions.
