Local School Committee

The Local School Committee (LSC) provides strategic oversight, support, and challenge to the school’s senior leadership team to ensure high standards of education and the best possible outcomes for pupils. It works within the vision, ethos, and policies of the Trust, ensuring that statutory responsibilities are met—including those set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

The LSC is made up of the Headteacher (and Head of School where applicable), elected staff and parent members, and co-opted community members appointed for their skills and experience. The committee meets four times a year alongside a structured programme of governor visits to the school.

The LSC has delegated responsibility to work with senior leaders on the following areas:

  • Standards

  • Stakeholder engagement

  • Safeguarding

  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The LSC is a committee of the Spiral Partnership Trust, which is legally responsible for overseeing the operations of the Trust’s schools. Our decisions are monitored by, and may be influenced by, the Board of Directors, who are ultimately responsible for all actions across the Trust's schools.

The LSC supports the work of the Trust and Board of Directors, acting as a critical friend to the school by monitoring decision-making and its impact on pupil progress, achievement, and attainment. It ensures that the Trust’s vision, ethos, and strategy are fully adopted and applied by school leaders.

If you would like to contact the Local School Committee or find out more about how it works, please contact the school office by telephone or email at admin@fleetvillejm.herts.sch.uk, or contact the clerk of the LSC at lscclerk@spiral.herts.sch.uk.

Please note: LSC members do not deal with individual pupil matters or specific complaints. Parents and carers should first raise any concerns directly with their child’s class teacher, and subsequently with the Headteacher or Head of School where necessary.

Chair of the Local School Committee - Clare Brailsford

Clare brings a wealth of educational and community governance experience to her role as Chair of the Local School Committee. A retired librarian, she spent the final part of her career as the Sixth Form Librarian at an independent girls' school, where she developed a keen understanding of student development, literacy, and educational environments.

In addition to her role on the LSC, Clare is an active Trustee for a medical charity and a member of one of the City of London Livery Companies. She is also deeply committed to supporting youth literacy in her local community, volunteering for the annual Summer Reading Challenge at her local library to foster a lifelong love of reading in young people.

Outside of her governance and charity work, Clare is an avid reader and culture enthusiast. She is a frequent visitor to London’s museums and art galleries, and enjoys travelling, cinema, and wine tasting.
