Learning at Home

Welcome to our Learning at Home hub. At Fleetville, we see parents as our most important partners in a child’s education. On this page, you will find details regarding our weekly home learning routines, how to support reading at home, and access to our online learning platforms.

(Please note: In the unlikely event that the school cannot open - such as during an emergency closure or snow day/extreme heat - learning will transition online via your child's Google Classroom. Teachers will provide resources, activities, and video guidance directly on your child's class page.)

Weekly Home Learning

We believe that home learning is most effective when it focuses on consolidating knowledge and skills already taught in the classroom.

  • Homework is handed out as a physical paper copy every Thursday and should be completed and returned to school by Tuesday, when it is reviewed and marked together in class.

  • We simply ask that children try their best. If your child experiences any difficulty with a task, please contact their class teacher so we can discuss ways to support learning at home.

For full details on our rationale and year-group expectations, please view our home learning policy:

Developing Reading at Home

Reading underpins everything we do. We encourage families to read with their children as often as possible to foster a lifelong love of literature.

  • Every classroom features a carefully curated book corner with around 150 age-appropriate titles, alongside our well-stocked main school library where children can check out books.

  • To ensure children build reading fluency and confidence at the right pace, we use a structured book band system. As children progress through Key Stage 2, these band books match their reading level in language and complexity.

  • Regardless of their book band stage, every child is encouraged to choose an additional 'free choice' library or book corner book purely for pleasure - ensuring their reading horizons are never limited.

  • Every child is provided with a Reading Record so parents and teachers can celebrate reading progress and track how frequently reading takes place at home.

Digital Learning Platforms

To further support learning beyond the classroom, we provide every child with personal logins to a selection of high-quality digital learning platforms, which you can access here:

Platform Core Purpose
Central hub for remote learning resources, teacher guidance, and online class communications.

Targeted online program designed to support reading fluency and comprehension skills.

The Home Learning Hub

While home learning tasks are set regularly by class teachers, some families ask us for recommended digital resources to further support, challenge or enrich their child's learning at home. Exploring these additional platforms is completely optional, but we recommend the following high-quality, educator-approved websites that we regularly use and trust.

Oak National Academy MathsBot
  • What it offers: A comprehensive library of high-quality, fully resourced digital lessons across all primary curriculum subjects.
  • Why we recommend it: Highly intuitive and easy to navigate, offering structured video lessons, quizzes, and worksheets ideal for reinforcing key concepts or revisiting specific topics.
  • What it offers: An extensive suite of interactive maths tools, concrete visual manipulatives, practice questions and creative mathematical challenges.
