Smartphone-free School
At Fleetville Junior School, we are committed to creating a safe and focused learning environment where children can develop healthy habits with technology. While technology plays a role in modern education, personal smartphones introduce unmonitored online access, social media pressure and unnecessary distractions during the school day. To safeguard our pupils' social and emotional wellbeing, we stand alongside primary schools across our district as part of the St Albans Smartphone Free Childhood movement.
Fleetville Juniors is a strictly smartphone-free site.
Guidance for Pupils, Parents & Visitors
- Pupils: Personal smartphones and smartwatches are not permitted on the school site.
-
Parents, Carers & Visitors: We kindly ask that all adults refrain from using smartphones while on the school premises - including during playground drop-offs and pick-ups - to help us model positive digital boundaries for our children.
Year 6 Walk-to-School Provision
We fully appreciate that as children reach Year 6, many begin walking to and from school independently, and some families value having a direct line of communication for peace of mind during the commute.
Year 6 pupils are permitted to bring a basic, non-smartphone (a phone that only allows basic calls and text messages, without internet access or social media) for their journey. Upon arrival each morning, these devices must be handed in to teachers to be securely stored in the classroom until the end of the school day.
