Sports Premium

The Government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. Schools receive the funding based on the numbers of pupils they have in Years 1 - 6.  Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money.   For example, we could use our funding to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers or sports coaches to work with teachers
  • improve teaching resources
  • increasing the provision of clubs for the least active children
  • increasing pupil participation in sport competitions and in the School Games
