The Journey

Our learning journey - Autumn 1

This term, our learning journey was a captivating exploration of the book 'The Journey' by Francesca Sanna, delving into the profound theme of migration. As we journeyed through this topic, the children engaged in a multifaceted learning experience that spanned various subjects.

In our English sessions, our young writers honed their grammar skills and language features, meticulously crafting their narratives. Their narratives were not just any stories; they were powerful reflections of their understanding of the journey, drawing upon the emotional depth of the book.

History lessons took us back to the rich tapestry of the Islamic civilization, where we studied the lives and migrations of people during this period. The histories of cultures, empires, and individuals unfolded before our curious minds, providing essential context for our theme of migration.

Our music sessions with Herts Music Provision immersed us in the rhythms of calypso music from Trinidad, a cultural exploration that beautifully connected to our study of the Windrush generation and the class novel 'Coming to England' by Floella Benjamin. This melodic journey not only introduced our students to vibrant rhythms but also deepened their appreciation of the diverse narratives that comprise the story of migration.

In PE, our students turned their focus to dance, where they explored the intricacies of motifs and timing. The result was a series of emotive dance performances that were nothing short of breathtaking. During our Learning Journey Celebration, parents had the privilege of witnessing these beautiful expressions through dance.

As we conclude this term's learning journey, we are immensely proud of the children's commitment and the depth of understanding they have gained. The theme of migration has been a powerful one to explore, as we've journeyed through narratives, history, music, and dance. It's been an enriching and eye-opening adventure, and we're excited to see where the next learning journey will take us.
