FJS update - 7th May

Good afternoon Friends,

Happy Thursday and I hope you enjoy your long weekend.

It is VE day tomorrow and it should be busy with so much going on nationwide and locally hopefully there will be a strong community feel to the day.

I have had a further request for support; Communities 1st, support those in the local community most affected by the Covid-19 crisis. They have been organising shopping support for people unable to leave their homes, supporting local charities to continue delivering their services in the community, as well as offering a telephone befriending service to the lonely and isolated.

They would like to invite schools in St Albans & District to take part in our new ‘Postcard Pals’ project to support those currently cut off from the rest of the community, either in care homes or in their own homes as a result of shielding.

Our children are asked to write a short letter or postcard to an isolated member of the community and post it to their school. The school would then post the letters in one envelope to Communities 1st so they can be delivered to isolated local residents and local care homes.

Letters should not contain any personal information, should be addressed 'Dear Resident,' and should be signed off with just a first name, or ‘from a pupil of …….. School’.

I think this could be very powerful and would love to support it if you have the time over the coming week.

Enjoy the long weekend, stay safe and well.
