At FJS, Computing is embedded in our curriculum. Technology are not just for Computing lessons, but for use in all lessons for a variety of different functions. We are lucky to have access to a wide range of electronic equipment to assist in our lessons. These support lessons where appropriate across the curriculum in all year groups. The children enjoy the use of these technologies. We aim to have children leave FJS:
- computer literate
- safe and responsible digital citizens
- confident typists
Below, please use the links to back up and refresh knowledge for computing that will support the above, including becoming a better typist, a safer person online and a coding whizz!
A NEW ACADEMIC YEAR... WHAT'S NEW?
FJS are undergoing some exciting developments in Computing this year. We are looking to invest in hardware further to support not only the teaching of Computing, but to support children's learning across the curriculum... WATCH THIS SPACE!
In line with this, to promote links between the classroom and home, after a successful trial period in Year 6, we have introduced the use of Seesaw - an online learning journal - across the whole school. If you would like to learn more about Seesaw, please click on the image for a link below.
In addition, we have built on the code clubs we already have in school to now have 4 code clubs running during lunch times - one for each year group. FJS is a 'Star Code Club' for Code-club.org, who send potential and current volunteers to our school to see how to set up and run a code club; we are very proud of this accolade and strive to maintain and build on this reputation. These clubs are mainly focused around mastering Scratch, with an advanced code club in Year 6 where children are exploring coding within games like Minecraft. This is all thanks to the amazing help offered by FJS parents, for which we cannot thank you enough. If you would like to volunteer, please make it known in the school office.
The annual conference for all things computing is taking place at the Excel in London in January of 2019. We look to attend to review what is currently in the market to support the curriculum as a whole and to network with companies who may be able to support us with our endavours to be at the forefront of technology within education.
SAFER INTERNET DAY 2019
Tuesday 5th February 2019
At FJS, in the week beginning the 4th February, we will be completing "safer internet" activities in class as part of Computing learning but also, to take part in national Safer Internet Day 2019.
The theme this year is taking ownership of the internet and about giving permissions #OurInternetOurChoice which is a very important message. There will be a whole school assembly on Monday 4th February and class activities throughout the week, along with a social media presence #SaferInternetDay2019
For parents, please find the resources that ChildNet, the organiser of Safer Internet Day, have put together to support you at home with your children and using the internet.
