Special Education Needs
It is one of the defining aims of the school that we should carefully plan our approach to teaching and learning in order to provide equal access to the whole curriculum for all of our children. Some children may have special educational needs. Such children are supported within the framework of the class and school, with the facility for specific areas of their learning to be given focus and emphasis within an Individual Education Plan, indicating particular areas and strategies for development. We recognise the primary importance of our open, informed partnership with parents, in supporting all of our children's learning, but place a specific value and emphasis on this as it concerns those children with special needs. Our Inclusion Co-ordinator (INCO) is Susy Hall. She is responsible for this area and may be contacted to discuss individual needs. We also endeavour to draw upon the advice and expertise of the Educational Psychologist and other professional agencies in order to provide the best-informed and monitored support for all our children. In the light of changes in the funding arrangements for SEN we are currently reviewing our procedures to support children with Special Needs. Copies of the Code of Practice are available from the DfES - 0845 6022260.
Accessibility
We consider ourselves an inclusive school and welcome pupils with both learning and physical disabilities. Where necessary and possible, adaptions are made to the school building or daily arrangements to accomodate all pupils and their parents. We currently have two wheelchair lifts as well as handrails in various parts of the building. A lift has recently been installed allowing wheelchair access to the first floor Art/D&T and Commmunity rooms. Three disabled toilets with changing facilities are available in different areas of the building. We also have a 'Soundfield' amplification system installed in one classroom in each year group to support children with hearing difficulties.
